70 year old Etta James at the Hollywood Bowl LAST NIGHT!
I received a call from my friend Joseph today who wanted to discuss his memorable experience at the Bowl last night. Apparently Etta came out looking svelte and healthy. I feel like I have to justify what happened next because it definitely unbelievable. During the show she began rubbing her crotch. Was she suffering from incontinence? Then she began bending over, as if to simulate sex from behind. I heard she was having a hard time walking, so maybe this position was the most comfortable for her. THEN she began giving fellatio to a microphone…I got nothing on this one other than maybe she is really hungry. She has lost a bunch of weight….It apparently got to the point where families began to leave so their kids didn’t have to witness this….spectacle.
Honestly, what was she thinking? I am not super familiar with Etta James other than the wedding anthem “At Last” (of which Christina Aguilera does an amazing version). Has she always done this? She HAS been performing for decades, but I have never heard of her being so vulgar. I barely expect this type of behavior from teen queens. Madonna even stopped at a certain point. Is this a publicity stunt?
Etta James is a legend compared with the likes of Billie Holliday, Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald. It is a shame that she is leaving people with this impression of her. Instead of being a mature lady, she decided to go a different route. Most likely everyone that was at the show last night will go away with memories of Etta James licking a microphone instead of being a regal, dignified performer. That, to me, is very sad.
Janet Jackson turns 42 on Saturday. Let’s stop her now before it’s too late!
